Carney Battery Handling Ltd was formed in 1984 after identifying the need for a safe, reliable and cost-effective way to manage battery changes in materials handling equipment given the rapid growth of large multiple-shift operations at the time.
Our initial work with some of North America's largest retail and logistics companies was on systems for their new and upgraded distribution facilities. From these early projects Carney quickly forged a reputation as a trusted partner, who they still rely on 25 years later, to design and construct the heart of the modern distribution centre - the battery room.
Carney was amongst the first to develop an effective and efficient man-aboard hydraulic changer for roll-out batteries with our Battery Bull range that removed all manual handling of the batteries and slashed battery change times.
Testament to the design and quality of these early systems is that many of them are still in service almost 20 years after commissioning and long after the initial battery and trucks fleets they supported have been replaced.
More recently we've implemented the first all AC electric drive change cart that supports up to six high battery stacking and delivers significant operational cost and energy savings over its life. We've also successfully designed and installed a number of operator-less fully automated systems for optimum change efficiency in AGV, robotics and automated plants.
Today we operate from our modern 50,000 sq ft manufacturing and distribution centre in Brampton, Ontario that houses our design centre, fabrication and assembly, paint & powder coating shop as well as pre-delivery test facilities.
This central hub supports our global network of customers and partners with an unmatched product range, spare parts program and support infrastructure that allows them to keep their ever-changing operations running smoothly and reliably no matter where they are on the globe.
